This Privacy Policy explains how Recovering Satellites ("we", "us", "our") handles the limited personal data we receive when you visit recovering-satellites.co.uk (the "website"). We are an independent band, so we keep data collection to a minimum, but we still want to be clear and honest about it and to respect your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

Recovering Satellites is an independent UK band based in Somerset, England — a hobby and passion project, not a registered company or commercial business. This website exists to showcase the band, share our music and gig news, and let people get in touch. We do not sell products, take payments, run user accounts or memberships, or keep a marketing database. For any questions about your data you can reach us at band@recovering-satellites.co.uk.

The data we collect

Website visitors

When you browse the website we may collect limited technical information automatically, such as your IP address, browser type, device information and pages visited. This is used to keep the site secure and to understand how it is used. See "Analytics" below.

Contact form submissions

We only collect personal details when you voluntarily choose to contact us — you don't need to provide anything to browse the site. When you use the contact form we collect the name, phone number and/or email address and message you provide, and use them solely to read and reply to your enquiry (for example, a booking request).

How your contact form is processed

Our contact form is handled by this website's own server, hosted by 20i, which emails your message straight to our inbox. A copy of each message is also kept in a private log on that server, so a message can't go missing; that copy is deleted after twelve months. No third-party form service is involved.

The website also keeps daily totals of taps on its call, email, WhatsApp and directions buttons, and of enquiries sent, with no names or other personal details in them (the Cookie Policy explains how, and how to opt out).

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google) to understand how visitors use the website — for example, which pages are most popular. We use Google Consent Mode v2: analytics cookies are only set once you accept analytics in our cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics cookies are stored and you are not identified or tracked across the site; Google may still receive anonymous, cookieless signals that it uses only to produce aggregated, statistical estimates of overall site usage. Cookies

We use our own built-in cookie banner to record your consent preferences and, where permitted, for analytics. You can review or change your choices at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of any page. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.

Lawful bases for processing

• Consent – for analytics cookies and tracking.
• Legitimate interests – to respond to enquiries you send us and to keep the website secure and functioning.

Data retention

We keep contact-form enquiries only for as long as needed to deal with your request and any related follow-up, after which they are deleted. Analytics data is retained in line with Google Analytics' standard retention settings.

Sharing your data

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for marketing, newsletters or any unrelated purpose — sending us a message will not add you to any mailing list. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the website and respond to you — principally our website host 20i (the site, its email and the form) and Google (analytics, where consented) — and only so they can provide those services to us.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• request correction of inaccurate data;
• request erasure of your data;
• object to or restrict processing;
• withdraw consent at any time (for example, by rejecting analytics cookies);
• lodge a complaint with the ICO.
